2010 Confirmation Highlights

Dear Confirmation Parents & Students:

I am very excited about confirmation this year.  We are making a few changes due to growth.  Confirmation will be each Wednesday evening from 7:00pm – 8:00pm.  We will start the time in a large group session and then break into smaller groups.  I will lead one group and Adam Gullion will be leading another group. 

I want to pass along a few Confirmation Highlights:

• Students are encouraged to attend class weekly and to bring the following to class:
  • Lutheran Handbook or Here We Stand Student book.  There is a cost of $18 per student to purchase a book and for additional class supplies throughout the year.  If you are unable to pay this full amount, please contact Alexia and let her know because we can work something out.
  • NRSV Bible.  An NRSV Bible will be provided if you do not have one, please just let me know.
  • 3 ring binder to collect class worksheets and other information.
  • Pen or pencil.
• Students are encouraged to attend worship weekly. 
  • Students will be required to complete 5 sermon worksheets by Wednesday, October 27, 2010.  You can turn these in as you complete them.  Students are encouraged to complete the worksheets during worship or listen to a sermon online at www.transformlives.org and go to the Recorded Sermons page.
  • Students are encouraged to serve during worship at either service.  Please let Alexia know your interest.  If you try something and aren’t comfortable, you can choose something else.  Please consider being a reader, assisting with communion or ushering.  Alexia can explain in more detail if you have questions.
• Students are encouraged to attend Sunday school weekly.   John Cundey will be leading the youth in Sunday school.
• Parents are vital to the growth and development of youth disciples.  Parents are encouraged to be involved with the Youth/Confirmation program.
  • Youth activities planned during the year will need parent participation.  Activities such as lock-ins will need additional male and female adult leaders.
  • There will be fundraising activities throughout the year to help with scholarship funds for summer camps such as Campfirmation at LutherRidge and Affirm at Berry College.  Ceres VanRiper will be contacting parents with fundraising event needs.
    • Students/Parents can also contact family and friends to encourage them to give tax free donations towards their scholarship fund.  They can send their donation directly to Community of Grace and designated it for your summer camp costs. See Alexia for more information about how to get started.
• It is essential for students to attend a one week camp during the summer (either Campfirmation at LutherRidge or Affirm at Berry College.)  Both camps cost approximately $400 for the week (includes room, activities and food.)   Ceres VanRiper will be forwarding information about camps such as dates, cost and forms.
  • Campfirmation is usually held the first week after school lets out.  Affirm is usually the week after Fathers Day.  You can get more information on their websites:  www.llmi.net for campfirmation and www.sesyouth.org for Affirm.

Youth Sunday:  October 24, 2010

            Confirmation Youth will be leading worship for both services.  Pastor Matt will be scheduling additional meetings in September and October for preparation.

Youth Spaghetti Dinner: Wednesday, November 17, 2010

            Confirmation Youth will participate in advertising, preparing and serving a spaghetti dinner for summer Camp fundraising.  Amanda’s piano students will provide entertainment as their Winter Recital.
